Sumario:According to «theology of holiness», the lives of saints are a «theological place». Thus, the heroic virtues and spiritual experiences of saints, as presented in correspondence, private diaries and other writings, are studied by systematic theology (dogmatic or moral). In contrast, the «theology of the saints» focuses, from a historico-theological perspective, on the impact of saints’ gestures, attitudes and works on the development of human culture and also on the inculturation of the Gospel; in short, how the saint has interacted with his environment. Within this epistemological perspective, the lives of saints are more than a theological place. Similarities and distinctions between the two theologies are illustrated by the gestures and words of St. Josemaría Escrivá, a pioneer of a new way of understanding Christian secularity.
