| Sumario: | The description of volcanic activity by early Spanish chronicles is poorly known in part by the unpublishment of some of their Natural Histories during centuries. Nevertheless, the detailed description of the volcanic phenomena and its associated damage make these chronicles invaluable for historical volcanology. In this work is reported chronicles on the activity of some American volcanoes during XVI century: Hawaiian activity (Java lake) at Masaya (Nicaragua) during 1525-1551, lahars induced by intense rainfall in 1541 at Agua volcano (Guatemala), and the violent plinian eruption of Huaynaputina volcano (Perú) during 1600 |
