This subject of study has been intensively cultivated in recent decades, incorporating new questions, previously little-explored sources, and original interpretive resources, compared to traditional psychiatric history. After a conceptual clarification exercise regarding these aspects and the very notion of madness, attention is given to the most recent contributions on the experience of hospitalization, studies on women and madness, and mental health activism from a historical perspective. It is concluded that today, in this “history from below,” various academic, intellectual, and cultural traditions converge, requiring interdisciplinary dialogues and transversal methodologies that both enrich and problematize studies on madness.[ES] Partiendo de la propuesta de Roy Porter sobre la historia de la medicina desde el punto de vista del paciente, formulada hace ahora cuarenta años, el presente artículo pretende analizar el desarrollo de este enfoque historiográfico aplicado a las narrativas de las personas psiquiatrizadas. Un objeto de estudio que en las últimas décadas ha sido cultivado con intensidad incorporando preguntas nuevas, fuentes poco exploradas y recursos interpretativos originales en comparación con la historia de la psiquiatría más tradicional. Tras un ejercicio de precisión conceptual en torno a estos aspectos y a la propia noción de locura, se presta atención a las aportaciones más recientes sobre la experiencia del internamiento, los estudios sobre mujeres y locura y el activismo en salud mental en perspectiva histórica. Se concluye que, hoy día, en esta historia “desde abajo” confluyen diversas tradiciones académicas, intelectuales y culturales que obligan a diálogos interdisciplinares y a metodologías trasversales permitiendo enriquecer y problematizar a la vez los estudios sobre la locura.Este artículo es parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2023-151059NB-I00, financiado por MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 y FEDER.
