| Resumo: | This study analyzes the relationship between social inequality and crime in Ecuador during the period 2010-2023, with a focus on redistributive policies and their impact on crime rates. It examines how socioeconomic gaps, represented by poverty and inequality, influence criminal behavior, highlighting the role of public investment in key sectors such as health and education in promoting social equity and reducing crime. Using a quantitative methodology that combines descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression, significant relationships were identified between efficient budget execution in these sectors and a decrease in crime rates. The results underscore the importance of addressing the structural causes of inequality through comprehensive public policies that ensure equitable access to basic services and create sustainable opportunities for the most vulnerable groups. This study emphasizes that social investment aimed at reducing poverty and inequality contributes not only to strengthening social cohesion but also to citizen security by preventing factors that drive criminal activity. These findings reinforce the need to implement public policies that prioritize equity and promote sustainable development, underscoring that effective crime prevention requires an integrated vision that combines social justice and public security. |
