| Resumo: | This research focuses on the "Analysis of the current situation of onion cultivation in Zapotillo canton." Using data collected from 82 farmers between December 2018 and November 2023, this information is projected to the entire universe of onion farmers. The total cultivated area, harvested volume, planting and harvesting schedules, as well as average annual yields, are examined in detail. The identification of major marketing points is conducted by analyzing 100% of the mobilization records between October 25 and November 24, 2023. This approach provides detailed information on the mobilized volume and main destinations of onion production in Zapotillo. To understand the profile of onion farmers, a detailed survey is conducted with 86 members of the Zapotillo Onion Agricultural Production Association. The survey addresses aspects such as planting capacity, educational level, land tenure, job generation, and resources used in productive activities, allowing for a comprehensive profile of onion cultivation farmers. Additionally, a thorough analysis of production costs records for 26 hectares of crops is carried out, revealing the detailed cost structure associated with this agricultural activity. This detailed perspective offers key information to guide efforts towards cost reduction and improving competitiveness in onion cultivation. Among the relevant findings, it is highlighted that in 2023, 822 hectares were cultivated, with an average yield of 51 tons per hectare. The author hopes that this contribution will be a valuable resource for Zapotillo farmers, providing statistical data for informed decision-making and guiding the sustainable growth of onion cultivation in the region. Furthermore, it addresses public institutions related to agricultural policies, urging better organization of services in support of onion farmers. |
