Descrição
Resumo:Guano Canton, located in Chimborazo Province, Ecuador, is renowned for its rich cultural, historical, and archaeological heritage, making it a significant tourist destination. This historical research focuses on ceramic artifacts from various phases of the Puruhá culture, including Tuncahuán, San Sebastián Elen Pata, and Huavalac. Through a qualitative and descriptive approach, the study examines these archaeological remains, analyzing their iconography and ceramic design. It explores the origin, form, function, and decorative features of these icons using historical, logical, and hermeneutical methods to interpret their meanings within cultural contexts. The research employs techniques such as direct observation, recording, and structured interviews with experts. The protection and conservation of archaeological artifacts with iconographic significance require a comprehensive strategy that integrates legal, technical, and cultural considerations. Establishing clear regulations, standardized evaluation criteria, and fostering inter-institutional cooperation are essential steps in this process. Moreover, recognizing the historical, scientific, cultural, aesthetic, and educational value of these pieces underscores their role as symbols of national identity. Applying Erwin Panofsky’s iconographic analysis to Puruhá ceramics shows their deep connections to nature, spirituality, and social structures. These artifacts not only preserve ancestral values and traditions but also reinforce cultural identity. Therefore, implementing conservation initiatives and raising community awareness are crucial for safeguarding this heritage. Strengthening social cohesion through collective commitment to cultural preservation ensures that these artifacts continue to serve as vital links to the past.
