Resumo:This essay analyzes Caetano Veloso’s autobiographical book, Verdade Tropical (1997), as a construction of the Brazilian musician and composer’s self-image within the context of Tropicalismo, exploring the tension between the presentation of intimacy and the performativity of the “superstar,” as well as the movement’s search for intellectual and political legitimacy amidst the military dictatorship in Brazil.
