Resumo:This degree project, entitled “Ergonomic Risk Assessment in the Workstations of Operators during the Poultry Slaughtering Process at a Processing Company in Santo Domingo,” implements specific ergonomic tools to assess the ergonomic risks present at each workstation. The aim is to propose preventive measures to improve working conditions and reduce musculoskeletal symptoms. The research followed a mixed-method design, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches through direct and field observation in each area involved in this stage. The ergonomic assessment tools used were the REBA method and the CheckList OCRA, which were applied to evaluate awkward postures and repetitive movements. Additionally, an online form based on the guidelines of the Nordic Questionnaire was used to gather information regarding musculoskeletal discomfort. The results indicated a medium level of risk according to the REBA method and a high, intolerable level of risk according to the Checklist OCRA. The survey further revealed that workers are aware of ergonomic risks and generally perceive their work environment as safe; however, discomfort in the neck, upper back, shoulders, and wrists persists, as these symptoms tend to be temporary and do not significantly hinder job performance. Based on these findings, preventive measures were proposed, targeting the source of the problem, the working environment, and the operator. Implementing these actions is expected to reduce the identified ergonomic risks, enhance worker well-being, and ultimately improve both individual and collective performance.
