| Resumo: | Introduction: Blood conservation strategies in surgical patients constitute a highly effective approach for minimizing or preventing allogeneic blood transfusions in clinical settings. These practices are endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union as essential components of modern perioperative care. Objective: To systematically review and describe evidence-based blood management strategies employed in surgical patients. Methodology: This study employed a comprehensive systematic literature review across reputable scientific databases, including PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, Medigraphic, ScienceDirect, Dialnet, and Google Scholar, in addition to academic repositories. Relevant studies providing data on blood conservation techniques in surgical contexts were identified and manually curated. Inclusion criteria were applied to select publications from the past four years, adhering to methodological rigor. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework guided the selection process, which initially included 80 articles, of which 21 met the established quality standards. Results: The administration of intravenous iron and the use of tranexamic acid were found to be effective in optimizing preoperative hemoglobin levels and minimizing perioperative blood loss. These interventions are associated with reduced reliance on transfusions and improved clinical outcomes. Conclusion: Implementing patient blood management strategies in surgical settings is critical for enhancing healthcare resource efficiency, reducing transfusion-related risks, and facilitating safer and faster postoperative recovery. |
