| Resumo: | The research was conducted within the Mache Chindul Reserve, involving 7 of the 25 communities located at Canton Pedernales in Manabí Province. The concern of the Pedernales Commonwealth about the disappearance of the forests and other resources thus made to conduct this research with the following objective: To evaluate the impact of agroforestry and socio economic activities at the community and institutional level on the management of Mache Chindul Reserve in Canton Pedernales; The hypothesis to be tested was: If the agroforestry and socio economic actions at the community and institutional level were contributing to the sustainable management of the Reserve, to test this hypothesis the methodology used was based on survey data from Mache Chindul Reserve’s Comprehensive Management Plan, and to the sample was applied a formula taking a sample population of 1934 inhabitants, resulting the total of 91 people to conduct the survey and this represented a sufficient basis for the results. With the collaboration of community leaders, the entry into the different communities was planned, a questionnaire was applied and it helped us to achieve the objective (land use, land tenure, training, education, and occupation). The results were confirmed, agroforestry and socio economic activities of the communities and institutions are not contributing to the sustainable management of the Mache Chindul Reserve. The forests (natural regeneration, stubble abandoned for years) are at 28% in Manabí, the 51% represents the grass area and the 18% is due to agricultural. In land tenure, 77% are squatters (there is a land tenure project but for lack of resources it does not start). The 56% of the people live on agriculture, although it is not enough economic entry, and they also work as laborers to help financially. Another important fact is that 68% of homeowners are landowners engaged in livestock. |
