By aspiring to become the standard-bearer of freedoms and social secularization, Freemasonry was more a victim than a protagonist of this process, as it ended up introducing profane values ​​and meanings into its symbols and doctrines.Se pretende explicar que, en la masonería moderna, existe un problema epistemológico y hermenéutico: el olvido y desconocimientos del sentido original de sus símbolos. Una de sus causas radica en que los métodos exegéticos antiguos se han olvidado o no se les presta importancia,  el pensamiento analógico, estrechamente vinculado al lenguaje simbólico, ha sido relegado a los márgenes de la cultura contemporánea.
