Subsequently, a description is offered about the known theoretical approaches to writing, organized into three categories: textual approaches, cognitive approaches and contextual approaches. Finally, a review is made of some other theoretical-methodological approaches that are currently being incorporated into the exercise of teaching writing. With this document we intend to contribute to the decisions that mediate the teaching of writing in our region, in order to strengthen educational processes for the achievement of more critical, more reflective societies with higher development rates.Este artículo presenta un recorrido por los diversos enfoques teóricos con los que se ha abordado la producción escrita. A partir de la revisión bibliográfica, se proponen, primeramente, las distintas clasificaciones que se han realizado sobre esta temática. Posteriormente, se ofrece una descripción acerca de los enfoques teóricos conocidos sobre la escritura, organizados en tres categorías: enfoques textuales, enfoques cognitivos y enfoques contextuales. Finalmente, se hace un repaso por algunas otras aproximaciones teórico-metodológicas que han sido consideradas en el ejercicio de la enseñanza de la redacción. Con este documento pretendemos contribuir con las decisiones que median la enseñanza de la escritura en nuestra región, con el fin de fortalecer los procesos educativos para el logro de sociedades más críticas, más reflexivas y con más altos índices de desarrollo.Universidad de Costa Rica.
