Resumo:One of the essential problems in Latin American thought has been the fact that efforts to grasp the own social reality are mediated by categories generated in othercontexts. This has promoted the well-known discussion about the authenticity of the intellectual tradition. In this sense, the theoretical work of Mariátegui represents a historical landmark in terms the possibilities to develop a Latin American Marxism. The central argument of his revitalization, as a classic, has been based on distinguishing his gesture of recreation of Marx’s theory in accordance with the surrounding reality and the problems of his time. The aim of this paper is to place Mariátegui’s work in a wider space of interpretation which includes his reformulation of the historical problems that Latin American thought has faced. We focus on the analysis of education and the university to propose a hermeneutic revelation exercise with the purpose of connecting the contributions of Mariátegui with the dilemmas of our historical present.
