Subsequently, it delves into two large types of mechanisms that, according to this category, are used to subject women to the domination of men, as well as to exclude them from public order. Then, the two theoretical assumptions that help to promote the above are addressed, namely, essentialism and the public-private dichotomy. Regarding the methodical, the article is channeled into an approach typical of analytical philosophy, in which Pateman's text is carefully scrutinized, along with other contributions from other authors, for the sake of systematization, clarity and precision of the conceptual elements that this category entails. It concludes with a final reflection that emphasizes the importance of this category to approach, not only contractualists texts, but also Western philosophy –at least– in general.El artículo conceptualiza la categoría de “contrato sexual”, elemento de suma importancia que está presente en los contractualistas clásicos. En orden a realizarlo, se parte del texto base de Carole Pateman, El Contrato Sexual (The Sexual Contract); clave en el acuñamiento de la categoría en sí, como por el impacto que tuvo en las investigaciones sobre el contractualismo y la filosofía en general. Posteriormente, se ahonda en dos grandes tipos de mecanismos que, de acuerdo a esta categoría, se utilizan para someter mujeres al dominio de hombres, como también para excluirlas del orden público. Luego se abordan los dos presupuestos teóricos que contribuyen a fomentar lo anterior, a saber, el esencialismo y la dicotomía público-privado. En lo concerniente a lo metódico, el artículo se encauza en un abordaje propio de la filosofía analítica, en que se escudriña con atención el texto de Pateman, junto con otros aportes de otras autoras, en aras de la sistematización, claridad y precisión de los elementos conceptuales que entraña la presente categoría.
