The results indicate that 100 beaches (54.9%) qualify as “AA”, that is, less than 10 CF/100 mL; 76 beaches (418%) as “A”, less than 100CF/100mL; 4 (2.2%) as “B”, between greater than 100 CF/100 mL to 240 CF/100 mL. That is, 178 beach waters (98.9%) are suitable for swimming or primary contact. And 2 beaches were classified as unsuitable, for 1.1% of which “D”.En el presente estudio se describe la calidad sanitaria de las aguas de las playas de Costa Rica, mediante los muestreos que realizó el Laboratorio Nacional de Aguas (LNA) en el periodo 2018 al 2023, en el marco del Programa Bandera Azul Ecológica. Los datos promedio geométrico del número más probable de Coliformes Fecales (CF/100 mL) en 182 playas, permitió clasificar las aguas de mar para la natación o contacto primario, según los Criterios Microbiológicos. Los resultados indican que 100 playas (54.9%) califican como “AA”, es decir, menor igual a 10 CF/100 mL; 76 playas (41.8%) como “A”, menor igual a 100CF/100mL; 4  (2.2%) como “B”, entre mayor que 100 CF/100 mL a 240 CF/100 mL. Es decir, 178 aguas de playa (98.9%) son aptas para la natación o contacto primario.
