It analyzes the job duties performed by counselors and the legal implications of the educational services provided when compared to the their actual job description as civil servants. This article, which is based on social research, more specifically, educational research, has a qualitative focus. Given the diversity of the findings, it is necessary to possess insight into the career path of guidance counselors, the supervisors to whom they report – the school principal. A general overview of legal management is also necessary in order to be able to substantially improve, fulfill and provide educational services.El presente artículo analiza las funciones que desempeña el personal de Orientación en su ejercicio profesional, tanto en primaria como en secundaria, en el circuito 02 de la Dirección Regional de Educación San José Central, en relación con las estipuladas por los lineamientos del Servicio Civil y sus implicaciones jurídicas en la prestación de los servicios educativos. Este estudio se trabajó desde la investigación social, más concretamente en la investigación educativa, bajo el enfoque cualitativo.
