Sumario:Concrete breakout is a common failure mode that limits the maximum achievable capacity of shear-loaded anchoring systems installed close to a free edge. Cast-in anchor reinforcement has proved to improve the behavior of this type of anchors. However, this alternative is most effective if the fastening system is also cast-in place. As a result, an experimental program was carried out to assess the shear response of bonded single anchors strengthened with post-installed CFRP laminates and compare their results with those of unreinforced specimens and anchors strengthened with a cast-in alternative (steel hairpin). Four CFRP reinforcement configurations were evaluated for each edge distance considered (50 mm, 100 mm). Strut-and-tie models were elaborated for the design of each reinforcement alternative, while also varying the area of CFRP reinforcement. Ultimate load, absorbed energy, strain unit behavior and failure mode were analyzed. The results showed that CFRP-reinforced specimens achieved ultimate loads that ranged from 2.7 to 5.4 and from 1.8 to 2.1 times that of unreinforced 50 mm and 100 mm specimens, respectively. Also, the failure mode in various specimens changed to anchor rupture, which is the limit state associated with the maximum shear capacity.
