| Resumo: | Schizophrenia is a diagnosis that has had a leading role at the psychiatric level, mainly due to the pharmacological management used to control positive symptoms. However, neuropsychology has the ability to provide other tools to understand cognitive alterations and behavioral changes, which are evident in this diagnosis and which have been little explored in relation to negative symptoms and the repercussions they cause at the social level. In this narrative review, articles that evaluated the cognitive profile of people with schizophrenia were reviewed, in order to analyze their cognitive profile and the neuropsychological tests most used in this population. The results showed that most of the research focuses on executive function, memory and attention, while a minority incorporates the component of social cognition and cognitive processes that are fundamental for good social performance. This reveals that an important area of cognition, which could explain the early social dysfunction of these patients, is not being assessed in the expected way |
