Description
Summary:The aim of this research was to describe a musicotherapy process aimed at the social integration of people with intellectual disabilities (ID), through qualitative methodology, in order to present the scope of the discipline. The participants are families and their children with intellectual disabilities inhabitants of Chia, Cundinamarca. It was there, that through the Foundation ASOCADEVI Shining Without Limits, the musical therapy process was carried out. During the musicotherapy process, different musical experiences were implemented using body, voice and instruments; starting from the method of improvisation, composition and some work with songs, which later allowed the construction of the main category Social Integration, and its subcategories: Communicative Action, Solidarity and Agency. This thesis addressed the design of Participative Action Research (IAP), making preliminary observations and interviews, field journals and focus group dialogues. Also, within the methodology, the thematic analysis of the focus group dialogues, field journals and musical compositions was applied, presenting the results based on the three subcategories and the main category. Finally, the process concluded with a presentation in front of the community of the ASOCADEVI Foundation, the families, the mayor’s office and the secretariat of Social Development of the municipality of Chía; with two compositions “La Fiesta Improvisada” and “Cumbia La Comunidad”. Together with music, they demonstrated the interaction, social equality and symmetrical relations that existed between the participants and the community.
