Resumo:This article is an investigation about the writing of two Jesuits who served as missionaries in the region of Pampa-Patagonia, in the 17th century. In this context, there was a second attempt to evangelize these natives, this time under the command of the Society of Jesus. Such an undertaking (1740-1753) provided the intensification of interethnic contacts and the increase of reports that inform us about these populations. Specifically, the paper will seek to discuss the construction of the rhetoric of otherness (HARTOG, 2004) by Thomas Falkner S.J and José Cardiel S.J, about the indigenous populations of the region, based on three recurrent stereotypes in these sources. In addition, the main objective is to problematize the notion of social place (CERTEAU, 2000), presenting the differences and similarities between the narratives of the religious, through the analysis of the individual trajectory of each religious.
