| Sumario: | The aim of this paper is to present some of the problems in the theoretical interpretation of Brazil made by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda from decolonial theory. By taking certain assumptions from Max Weber's theory, the author of Raízes do Brasil contributes to the social imaginary which still inform interpretative forms of knowing Brazilian problems. Thus, the paper begins with a brief discussion of Max Weber’s theories about the protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism to then present the appropriations made by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda of his ideas. The constellation of common elements that underlie the sociological production of the two authors is then confronted with the paradigm of decoloniality that is expected to highlight some of the limits of the traditional narratives of modernity |
