Sumario:Cooperation networks are new organizational forms that provide learning, competitiveness and business opportunities for small and medium-sized companies, based on the sum of efforts from the local external economies and the joint actions of the actors. Theoretically, the formation of networks involves competitive and contingency factors that motivate companies to establish interorganizational links. The bases for joint action are established by the organizations themselves, which autonomously evaluate the most relevant interactions for the acquisition and optimization of resources that were unavailable until now, comparing the benefits and costs of network operations. Thus, this research aimed to evaluate and characterize the organizational and interorganizational aspects inherent to the cooperation network, showing the influence of these aspects on the legal recognition of the geographical indication. With a focus on interorganizational relationships, it also sought to identify and describe the characteristics related to the creation of value in social relationships established in a network. The object of study was the biscuit cooperation network, with actions centered on the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, the 3rd largest among the 417 municipalities in Bahia and the 5th largest city in northeastern Brazil. The study was based on the qualitative method of investigation, with an exploratory and descriptive character, under the interpretive bias. The research strategy was based on a single case study and implemented by the case study protocol (reliability criterion). The sources of evidence were collected using three techniques (criterion of validity), documentary research, direct observations and semi-structured interviews and by agenda (sociometric generator). The data treatment method was applied based on content analysis (Atlas.ti® software), revealing the descriptions, inferences and interpretations of the collected communications, as well as through the descriptive analysis of social networks (Ucinet® and Netdraw® software) ), indicating the interactions between social actors (nodes, links and flows) in order to measure the levels of density and centrality (Degree, Betweenness and Closeness) of the actors in the network. The results found allow us to conclude that: a) the competitive and contingent factors, related to the market and the environmental and organizational aspects, which have led to the formation of the cooperation network are intrinsically linked to the perception of organizations that a better business performance is not a result only from individual efforts, even though, in practice, interorganizational relationships are quite limited; b) the decision to establish interorganizational relationships has been facilitated by aspects related to the participation of development agents, with prominence for the participation of Sebrae (BA), finding, however, difficulties in the strengthening of trust and the commitment of the actors; c) the creation of relational value has been hindered by the existence of opportunistic practices that lack neutralization measures (social norms and ethical conduct) and by the restricted integration between the actors in meetings and events, as well as in the lack of specific time dedicated to development of the cooperation network's actions; d) the effective participation of producers and traders in the cooperation network has not had repercussions on well-defined measures of cohesion (density) and positioning (centrality) of the actors in the exchange of information and communications, which is essential for achieving the legal recognition of the geographical indication.
