| Sumario: | This study raises the discussion of the National Textbook Program (NTP), which serves the public education system at municipal, state and federal levels, reflecting on its implementation in Brazilian public schools. Considering the fundamental role of teachers in the implementation of this public politics, we seek to present the point of view of teachers in the early years of elementary school on the process of choosing textbooks as well as analyzing the evaluation process of textbooks sent to schools, before and after the final choice process in schools. We used semi-structured questionnaires as a data-recording instrument, relying on Oliveira (2011), Romanini (2013) and Caimi (2018), who discuss the public politics in question. We realized that, although the NTP is a public politics that contributes significantly to the work of the teacher in the classroom, since textbooks are seen as an important tool for the teaching-learning process, great challenges still exist when the program is put into practice. Such failures and disconnections in several of its stages between the actors involved, mainly between the State, publishers and teachers, result in a program that needs adjustments for its effectiveness to be achieved. Finally, we perceive the fragility of the power of choice of those who will be directly influenced: the teachers, the main actors in the students’ teaching/learning process. |
