Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to provide a multisystemic view and understanding of the complexity of the phenomena linked to suicide in adolescence, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since this is an extremely complex topic, we have drawn on clinical vignettes of cases observed in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Emergency Department at Hospital Dona Estefânia, one of the largest pediatric hospitals in Lisbon. We tried to provide a sociological, psychodynamic, systemic, and integrative reflection on the various phenomena related to the act of suicide and its conceptualization in the developing adolescent. Finally, we conclude this article by drawing attention to the need for urgent intervention in suicide prevention, with special emphasis on adolescence and its challenges.
