Description
Summary:Historical denialism of the Brazilian 1964 civil-military dictatorship featured throughout Jair Messias Bolsonaro’s political career. This paper analyzes three propositions related to the 1964 dictatorship put forthby Bolsonaro during his legislative terms in 2004, 2013, and 2014, to explain the historicity and characteristics of the historical denialism present in these documents. We argue that this denialism updates the strategies of terror implementations to foster a culture of fear and, therefore, promote violence. Hence, historical denialism goes beyond a mere denial of reality.
