Resumo:doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i3.6953In our experience we have identified that the approach to people with diabetes mellitus (DM) has been focused on actions to control and monitoring the disease, and disregard the consequences and confrontations that these people experience in their daily lives. This is a qualitative, descriptive, Case Study aimed to understand the repercussions and confrontations that people with chronic conditions by DM experience in their daily lives. The apprehension of the data was based on the methodological strategy of the History of Life which was implemented by the Focal Depth Interview. The study was conducted with a person with diabetes who was hospitalized in public hospital at Cuiabá/MT, in 2007, Data analysis allowed to understand that daily life is marked by confrontation and consequences increase as the phases of exacerbations and complications of the disease, (re) arrangements added to the daily fear of dependence on others for care and fear of death. This study enables, invites us and (re) think the practice of management attention and focused on individuals and families in chronic condition of diabetes.
