| Sumario: | Complementary therapies such as Laser Therapy are becoming more prevalent in Dentistry. Laser therapy uses a type of electromagnetic radiation that differs from an ordinary light source in its own characteristics and properties and different wavelengths. This radiation produces its effects, such as analgesia, anti-inflammatory effect and healing effect through the interaction of light with biological tissue, and it can also cause microbial death through photodynamic therapy. Laser devices can be classified into high and low intensity and have applications in various dental fields. However, the application of this therapy requires in-depth study and prior training to achieve the best result of clinical effects. The aim of this paper was to conduct a literature review and present the effects and applicability of Laser Therapy in dental clinic. The literature review included articles published from 2005 to 2020 and showed several articles with clinical cases that corroborate the use of laser therapy by dentists. It was concluded that Laser Therapy is a promising treatment modality in contemporary dentistry that has both intraoral and extraoral applications, has no adverse effects when used correctly, and improves outcomes, provides more comfort, and improves the quality of dental care. |
