| Sumario: | The Diário de Guerra (War Diary), a provisional title of the notes made by João Guimarães Rosa during the period in which he served as Vice-Consul in Germany, demonstrates, even in an incipient way, the conscious distance he maintained in relation to the battles of the first years of the Second War. This distance cannot only be explained by his position as a diplomat, but as a result of a profound aversion against the violation of human dignity committed in the name of Nazi ideology. Rosa avoids political questions and prefers to study the natural phenomena he detects in Germany, but he does not hesitate to show his revolt when Nazism hurts his humanistic principles, whose e defense is still political. |
