| Sumario: | This work discusses the results obtained from the investigation of an archaeological context associated to the Aratu Tradition in southern Bahia, the Canaã site, in which were evidenced ceramics with graphite slipped surface and with graphite inclusions. In an initial effort to understand the production and spread processes of these ceramics throughout that region, their origin and that of their constituting materials was investigated. To that end, graphite samples and ceramic fragments from the Bahia-Minas Graphite mines were examined by portable X-Ray Fluorescence technique. The results obtained confirmed the hypothesis that the graphite used in ceramics came from that graphite province, and that its use was due to the technical choice of potters, from the special properties that mineral has. |
