Resumo:Reductions in average river flows have led to increasing salinization of rivers and groundwater in the region of São João da Barra (Brazil). This paper presents a bibliographic and patent survey on brackish and saltwater desalination technologies, with reverse osmosis, aiming to establish design parameters for a desalination plant. Based on this survey, it can be concluded that the configurations of these plants are very varied and constitute specific arrangements for specific applications. Such technologies are described.
