| Resumo: | The present article intends to analyze the freedom of speech worked by the British philosopher John Stuart Mill in the book On Liberty. From a bibliographical review of the indicated book and dialoguing with other thinkers, the idea of the tyranny of the majority is extracted, which is the social tendency to construct an ideological archetype that establishes the rules of social conduct and sanctions those who are oppose their precepts or individuals who are not in line with their methods. It is concluded by Mill's total opposition to this construction, in favor of strengthening the principle of liberty, a democratic and republican corollary |
