A growing increase in cases involving technologies such as social networks and messaging applications is observed, highlighting the ease with which aggressors adapt to the digital environment and the difficulties faced by victims in reporting or even recognizing the aggression as a crime. The results reveal a significant increase in digital sexual violence crimes, such as ‘virtual rape’, and highlight the gaps in current policies and laws to address these new forms of aggression. The study concludes that it is crucial to constantly update legislation to adapt to new digital tools and implement protective measures, such as public policies on digital education, in order to effectively address the challenges of sexual violence in the virtual environment. Resumo Este artigo tem o objetivo de explorar as múltiplas facetas da violência sexual na era digital, analisando sua evolução e os desafios e impactos resultantes dessa transformação. Utilizando uma análise de literatura, o estudo examina a evolução histórica das percepções sociais sobre a violência sexual e os desafios contemporâneos impostos pela digitalização. Observa-se um aumento crescente nos casos envolvendo tecnologias como redes sociais e aplicativos de mensagens, destacando a facilidade com que os agressores se adaptam ao ambiente digital e as dificuldades enfrentadas pelas vítimas para denunciar ou mesmo reconhecer a agressão como um crime. Os resultados revelam um aumento significativo nos crimes de violência sexual digital, como o ‘estupro virtual’, e evidenciam as lacunas nas políticas e leis atuais para lidar com essas novas formas de agressão.
