Among these activities was funding, and supervising the creation and distribution of a series of documentaries that, screened throughout the country, were intended to disseminate liberal ideology and, at the same time, strengtheninggroups that wanted to oust Goulart at any cost. The authorship of these documentaries'scripts is controversial: a number of researchers, supported by documents and testimonies, attribute it to writer Rubem Fonseca, while others reject this hypothesis. A formal comparison between the documentaries and the work Fonseca produced in the same period has not yet been established. This essay outlines, with its limits, a comparison.Nos anos que antecederam o golpe militar de 1964, o Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Sociais (Ipês) realizou diversas atividades de propaganda com o intuito de desestabilizar o governo de João Goulart e com isso ajudar no estabelecimento de condições que possibilitariam a ruptura democrática. Entre as atividades do instituto estava o financiamento, supervisão de criação e distribuição de uma série de documentários que, exibidos no país inteiro, tinham como intenção propagar a ideologia liberal e, ao mesmo tempo, fortalecer as correntes que queriam, a qualquer custo, a saída de Goulart. A autoria dos roteiros desses documentários é controversa: alguns pesquisadores a atribuem ao escritor Rubem Fonseca, apoiados em alguns documentos e testemunhos, enquanto outros recusam essa hipótese. Algo ainda não realizado é a comparação formal entre os documentários e a obra que Fonseca produziu nesse período.
