Resumo:The objective of this study was to assess potential erosion in the stream Rico hydrographic sub-basin (SRHS), in order to support improvements in environmental conservation and economic productivity. The procedures took place in the ArcGIS® program, with the aid of a geographic database. SRHS was delimited with the aid of a Digital Elevation Model. The erosive potential was estimated using the Universal Soil Loss Equation, w.ith the parameters: slope, ramp length, erodibility and erosivity. Erosion was quantified, classified and mapped. The most comprehensive erosion class is the “strong” one. However, the “moderate to strong” to “very strong” classes account for 91.841%. Soil losses range from 6.933 ton/ha.year to 12173.283 ton/ha.year, with arithmetic mean of 1715.276 ton/ha.year and standard deviation equal to 792.560 ton/ha.year. Such results indicate a high tendency for soil loss, which may cause losses associated with incorrect planning of rural activities. The use of conservationist techniques, the correct anthropic occupation and maintenance of vegetation cover are extremely important measures for SRHS.
