| Summary: | This article aims to establish specific analyzes on the construction of the feminine and the sacred in the literary work The Mists of Avalon by the american autor Marion Zimmer Bradley, from 1979, evaluating her perspective on the women’s valorization and the vision of the mystic present in the work, ideas that dialogue with the attempt to legitimize the “second wave” feminist movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s in the United States, which included the search for the remembrance of the image of witches. Therefore, reflections on the literary representation of paganism from the late-ancient period to the medieval period are proposed – since the novel elaborates a fictional look at the 5th and 6th century CE – in contrast to the construction of the arthurian image present mainly in the medieval Historia Regum Brittaniae of the 12th century CE, but also in the Historia Brittonum of the 9th century, both of which established the most recognized Christian myths about the legendary figure of King Arthur. |
