This study aims to evaluate the use of phytotherapy as an adjunct treatment for asthma symptoms and to point out the problems arising from the lack of information on herbal treatment in general. The data were obtained through a field research conducted at the unifeso pneumopediatric outpatient clinic with the guardians of children with asthma. After a critical literature review, it was evaluated whether the species used have scientific evidence for the expected pharmacotherapeutic activities or whether they are used only based on reports based on popular knowledge. Through this research it was observed that in fact the most used species can promote the relief of asthma symptoms.O uso de plantas com finalidades medicinais para o tratamento de doenças é uma abordagem utilizada por muitos anos de forma popular, por meio de chás e outras preparações. Com base nos resultados promissores que estas plantas podem proporcionar, hoje já existem diversos estudos e pesquisas que comprovam a eficácia nos tratamentos de diversas doenças através da fitoterapia. Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar o uso de fitoterapia como tratamento coadjuvante para os sintomas da asma e apontar os problemas decorrentes da falta de informação sobre o tratamento fitoterápico de modo geral. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de uma pesquisa de campo realizada no ambulatório de pneumopediatria do UNIFESO com os responsáveis das crianças portadoras de asma. Foi avaliado se as espécies utilizadas possuem evidências científicas para as atividades farmacoterapêuticas esperadas ou se são utilizadas apenas com base em relatos fundamentados no saber popular. Dentre as espécies citadas, aquelas mais citadas foram Guaco (Mikania glomerata Spreng.) e o Limão (Citrus limon), observando-se que muitas plantas medicinais são empregadas pelo conhecimento popular.
