| Resumo: | The objective of this study was to identify the type and quantity of fibres present in rice bran. Samples of fresh rice bran were analysed by Acid Detergent Fibre Method (NDA) and Neutral Detergent Fibre Method (NDF). The results showed that rice bran has in its fibre composition high levels of N. D. F. (27,4%), predominating the contents of hemicelluloses (17.3%) and lignin (20.9%). On the other hand, the value obtained for cellulose (2.64%) was smallerthan that reported in literature. The informations of this study show that rice bran has high concentration of insoluble fibres, such as hemicelluloses and lignin, which may play an important protective role against colonic carcinogenesis. |
