Descrição
Resumo:The main objective of the article is to analyze the Catholic missionary company in the province of Québec (Canada) towards Latin America and Brazil in the middle of the 20th century. It focuses specifically on the first movements in the 1950s, reconstructing its trajectory in a his-torical-descriptive perspective. Reflecting a shift in the Catholic mission under transformation in the universal Church, dioceses began to play an increasingly central role in intercontinental missions at that time. From this call, the first missionaries to the northeast region of Brazil, Maranhão, leave the province of Canada, more precisely. In addition to bibliographic studies, the article was based mainly on the study of primary sources, unprecedented in Brazil, re-searched in the Archives of the Nicolet Seminary, in the province of Québec, Canada.
