| Sumario: | The notion of rural development is linked to transformations, the improvement of the quality of life of the rural population, considering the plural aspects that exist in this environment. Rural development, in a way, results from actions articulated in the cultural, social and economic aspects with the objective of improving the quality of life in rural areas. The objective of this work was to analyze the levels of rural development in the municipalities of the North Mesoregion of Minas, based on population, social, economic and environmental well-being indicators in 2010. The methodology used was based on the study by Kageyama (2004), which adopted the Rural Development Index (RDI), a composite index, obtained by averaging other indicators, namely: population, social well-being, economic development and environment indicators. The idea of measuring rural development through an indicator made it possible to reflect on a measure that resulted from the combination of several important dimensions in this context. The IDR analysis reinforced the idea that multidimensional aspects are fundamental to rural development. Furthermore, measuring rural development requires a careful choice of variables and the combination of these in each dimension, in addition to observing the characteristics of the region to be analyzed. |
