Resumo:The aim of this paper was to analyze the general competences presented at the BNCC for the final years of elementary school and to investigate if Freire's pedagogy presents alternatives for overcoming and confronting neo-conservative policies, based on a qualitative documentary research, which was used as its main objective. Theoretical framework Paulo Freire and his epistemological and pedagogical contributions regarding the categories critical education, collectivity and awareness, guided by the following research question: “Can Freire's pedagogy be a source of resistance to the instrumentalism present in the neoconservativeism proposed in the BNCC?”. In this way, it was possible to identify the competences that have characteristics that are contrary to a broader and critical understanding, based on Freire's (1987) understanding of critical and awareness education.
