Resumo:Urban mobility is a fundamental dimension of every city. However, the current model, based on individual motorized transportation, has caused a series of problems, both social and environmental: traffic jams, pollution, accidents, among others. Furthermore, considering that educational institutions, such as the Instituto Federal Catarinense, are Trip Generating Developments (PGV), this problem is even worse in these areas. Thus, this study sought to identify the most efficient means of transportation to IFC X. As a methodology, in partnership with the União de Ciclistas do Brasil (UCB), we used the Commuter Challenge (DI). The DI emerged as a strategy of the cycling activist social movement to analyze the quality of urban mobility. Over the years, this strategy has been improved by the movement itself, as well as by academic research. In the DI, participants leave the same location simultaneously and must each arrive at the same destination using their own mode of transportation.  The DI efficiency index considers, in addition to travel time, factors such as: financial cost, carbon monoxide emissions, noise emissions and energy consumption. This first edition of the IFC X DI had the participation of 11 people and evaluated the efficiency of 6 different modes of transportation (bicycle, motorcycle, private car, ride-hailing car, walking and bus). The result of the first IFC X DI reached similar results to others carried out in Brazil and identified the bicycle as the most efficient means of transport in urban mobility.
