Sumario:Santo Amaro do Maranhão has great tourist potential due to natural beauties of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (LMNP). In this context, the host house appeared as an alternative accommodation for the development of tourism, considering that there were not enough inns or hotels to supply the growing demand of tourists. This study analyzes the environmental management of the accommodations and the homeowners perception regarding tourism and the environmental issue related to LMNP. The method used for research was the explanatory type, with a sample composed of ten households, which made their houses hostels. The results indicate that owners understand the importance of conserving natural resources to ensure the development of tourism in the county, and that the issue of environment and environmental education must be prioritized for all lines of action of environmental public management.
