| Resumo: | The analysis of adaptations in fishing communities is an important indicator of resilience of the population who face socio environmental changes on the coast area. Despite this importance, investigations on this topic are still weak on the coast of Ceara (Northeast of Brazil). This study focuses on describing the fishing production system used in four communities on the Coast of the city Icapuí (CE). The qualitative character of the research prompted the adoption of ethnographic methods, with the application of semi-structured interviews to active and inactive fishermen, residents in the communities, associated with participant observation. A total of ten fisheries production systems were identified, involving combinations of five types of vessels and nine fishing equipment, demonstrating adaptability to different ways of capture. The diversity of fishing systems is one of the aspects that reflects the complexity of the activity in the region for the management of common resources. This characteristic should be considered for conservation initiatives in the area, giving priority to approaches that incorporate the knowledge of local experts, i.e. fishermen, and dialogue with the different actors involved in all fisheries production systems. |
