| Resumo: | This dissertation aims to examine the constitution of identity and the life plan of three South American immigrants (Peru, Colombia and Ecuador) who live in the city of São Paulo. In addition, it was possible to demonstrate the main dilemmas faced by them in the immigration process, as well as to deepen the understanding of Social Psychology in the context of immigration. For this research, the qualitative method and the tools of narrative life stories were applied. In order to analyze the data provided by the interviewees, the life history method was adopted, revealing the connections between individual and collective history lived by the immigrants, aiming to understand the dynamic being of these individuals. We sought the appropriation of concepts put forward by Ciampa (2003) about “Identity- Metamorphosis- Emancipation” and the dialectics faced by the individual in the construction of their identity, amply discussed by researchers from Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisa Identidade- Metamorfose (NEPIM) at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. We also aimed at intensifying the studies on immigration and society, bringing forward the global, South American and Brazilian scenery, as a way of contextualizing the phenomenon, based on the works of Sayad (1998), Bauman (1998), Castles (2010) e Dobles, Vargas e Amador (2014). After the presentation of the literature review and the presuppositions about immigration, identity, life plan and the methodological analysis of the interview, we sought to conclude by showing the importance of the immigration process and the comprehension of the individual who migrates, in order to draw attention to the current reality and, at the same time, to propose public policies that may contribute to a better immigrant assimilation in the society that receives them.
