Resumo:This article examines Unesp’s institutional initiatives to support and develop scientific journals, aiming to enhance their standing nationally and internationally. The topic is important because it is necessary to improve the dissemination of scientific knowledge and raise the reputation of Brazilian publications. The study analyzes the initiatives implemented by Unesp and their impact on the qualification of journals at different stages of development. The research adopts a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive approach, combining bibliographic and documentary research. Institutional documents and relevant literature on policies supporting scientific journals in Brazil were analyzed. Conducted as a case study focused on Unesp’s experience, the research used content analysis to identify patterns and effective practices. The results show that Unesp’s actions helped improve the qualification of its journals, as evidenced by their advancement to higher categories over the years. The current institutional policy goes beyond merely applying international criteria for recognizing and evaluating scientific communication; it emphasizes qualitative and ethical aspects, highlighting the quality, integrity, and reliability of the knowledge produced.  Beyond strengthening the scientific prestige of its journals based on their intrinsic qualities, Unesp’s experience can inform similar initiatives at other universities, helping to broaden the sharing of scientific knowledge and, consequently, increase the visibility and reputation of the institutions and researchers involved.
