| Sumario: | The article addresses the relationship between Psychology and Literature, highlighting the mutual influence between these disciplines from the late 19th century to the present day. Authors such as S. Freud and C.G. Jung used literary works to support their theories, while Literature, in turn, was influenced by psychological advances, exploring themes related to human nature. The study investigates the “phenomenon of dying” in Lev Tolstoy's novel “The death of Ivan Ilyich”, analyzing the protagonist’s psychic experiences in the face of this process. For the collection and manipulation of data, the present research utilized the proposal of “phenomenological-empirical research” presented by Giorgi and Souza (2010), and expanded by Goto (2022). Using the phenomenological-empirical methodology, psychic experiences of physical pain, affective psychological suffering, and the awareness of a meaningless life were identified. The theoretical foundation was based on Phenomenology and Husserl's Phenomenological Psychology. The study contributes to the understanding of psychic experiences related to death and highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between Psychology and Literature in analyzing deeper human aspects. |
