Descripción
Sumario:The article focuses upon women struggle for education, from the point of reference of their insertion into the teaching profession, towards the end of the XIXth Century, under the auspices of Christianity ideas which have taken Mary as a model of feminine formation. Resulting from a theoretical-bibliographical research, it points out the women"™s entrance into teaching, which became predominantly, a feminine profession, from the last decades of the XIXth Century to the first ones of the XXth Century, that is, within the Brazilian Republican context, in which, on one hand, the positive-hygienist values along with the Catholic Church ideas were being disseminated, and, on the other hand, the women struggle towards their access to education and against feminine submission, in general, gained more strength.
