Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to investigate the representation of urban space in A cidade sitiada, by Clarice Lispector. To achieve this goal, some notions are analyzed: space and city, based on Pesavento (2002; 2007) and Certeau (1994), and space as a category of literary analysis, according to Borges Filho (2007) and Brandão (2007). Besides that, it is observed the way in which the city is represented in the narrative, both on the social and psychological behavior of the protagonist Lucrécia Neves. It is concluded that the character, when walking around the small town of São Geraldo and the big city, looks around and identifies herself with the elements of space and, therefore, constitutes herself as a person. At the same time, she gives meaning to the world.
