Sumario:Objective: to identify through the Beers criterion the prevalence of inappropriate medication use by elderly people, and the associated factors. Method: cross-sectional study with 350 people aged 60 years or over, from a municipality in the extreme south of Brazil. Result: the prevalence of drug use potentially inappropriate for age was 57.1% and was associated with the presence of potential drug interaction, therapeutic duplicity, polypharmacy, hypertension, diabetes and heart diseases.
