Resumo:Chronic kidney disease is characterized by slow, progressive and irreversible loss of renal functions, hemodialysis enters as a treatment for the accumulated solutes to be removed until the possibility of a renal transplant. The aim of this study was to verify the nutritional status of patients undergoing hemodialysis, through the following variables: Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), Arm Circumference (CB), Arm Muscle Circumference Tricipital, Bicipital, Subscapular, Suprailiac, and serum biochemical evaluation of Albumin and Ferritin. According to the BMI result the individuals are eutrophic. Through CC, it is possible to observe inadequacy in females, characterized by risk of morbidities. According to CB, females had a higher prevalence of malnutrition than males, justified by a greater reserve of adipose tissue in females. In contrast, CMB was classified as eutrophic in both sexes. According to the results obtained through the measurement of skin folds, the percentage of body fat is inadequate between genders. By analyzing the biochemical tests, the serum albumin values were within the reference values (3.5 to5 g/ dL) in both sexes, the results for ferritin were above the reference values, male sex (30 to 300 μg /L), female (10 to 200 μg /L), because the chronic disease is positive for the increase of its levels. Considering the results obtained in the present study, it is concluded that part of this sample is at nutritional risk, a fact that emphasizes the importance of nutritional monitoring in this process.
